My “Secret Subject” is:
Tell us about a song that, every time you hear it, takes you back in time.

Well, this subject was not as easy as it may seem. I have a hard time with music questions. Music is such a massive part of my life, and so important to me, that it is hard for me to narrow things down. With this subject, I did have one song pop into my head, but I did not want to go there. Mostly because the back story is not something I really want to discuss at this moment. It really is not bad, but it is personal.
So, I was seeking input from Chad and Andrea from AndieRunsOffCrazy, and they were no help at all. None whatsoever. So, I was about to search songs of the 90's, and my answer came to me. Yay!
My answer: "Greatest Love of All" by Whitney Houston. It is actually the first song I ever remember hearing. My mom was a huge fan, and listened to it constantly. I loved it. I remember walking down the hallway of our apartment building, and hearing it, and knowing I was home. I was probably only two or three years old, but it is a very strong memory. I think it was this very song that actually made me fall in love with music. I loved Whitney's voice. I still love her voice. It remains a favorite song for me to this day.
Every time I hear it, I transport back to childhood. I feel that same happiness I did then, and I remember how it felt like home to me. Yes, a song felt like home. It gave me comfort and reminded me of my mom. I listened to the song a lot over the years, since after the age of four, I lived with my dad, and rarely saw my mom. It was my link to her. It helped me remember her and feel close to her.
So, what about you?! What song takes you back?! What does it take you back to?!

Such a wonderful memory and it's great that you can hear that song and feel that love again.
ReplyDeleteI can never come up with a specific song name when asked, but there are definitely songs that take me places when I hear them come on the radio!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't pick just one song either. You did a great job and enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty song, but this made me feel so old! Haha!
ReplyDeleteI'm a music junkie so 1 song is not possible. LOL I have many favorites and memories as well that are associated with certain songs, some very personal, some tragic, others happy.
ReplyDeleteYou know I have many songs and keep doing top ten Thursdays about them.
ReplyDeleteI have a strong memory of when I discovered Whitney Houston: It was in fall 1985, we were on vacation in the Italian part of Switzerland, there was a thunderstorm, and radio reception was bad, but I liked what I heard, it was "all at once", but just when the radio guy said who the artist was, a giant thunder made it impossible for me to understand. I THOUGH he might have said something like "Houston".
The next day I went to a record store and asked the sales people about a wonderful voice, a lady, possibly called Houston. The shrugged their shoulders. In my rookie English I sang it to them: "all at once, I'm drifting on a lonely sea, wishing you'd come back to me" The shook their heads. No idea.
I kept looking for weeks, and I think right as Christmas was coming up, her album "Whitney Houston" hit the stores, and I just KNEW it was her! Yay, I found her!
Can you believe she's been gone for five years? So sad.
