Boredom, Boredom Go AWAY! #BlogWithFriends

Welcome to July's Blog with Friends Round-up!! Each month, a group of bloggers join Karen from Baking in a Tornado, and pick a theme for the month. Then each blogger creates a post, based on that theme. Posts can include anything the blogger wants. You may find poetry, recipes, short stories, DIY projects, crafts, informative posts, and anything else a blogger may choose. It is just a fun way, for us to all give our own take on a given theme.

This month's theme is Anti-Boredom Month. Did you know that July is National Anti-Boredom Month? I did not know this, until we were researching themes for our BWF posts. I think it is an excellent idea for Summer. I know when I was growing up, the most boredom I encountered, was usually in the Summer. The rest of the year, I would be so busy with school and activities, I did not have time to be bored. Then Summer would hit, and after the excitement wore off, the boredom would come visit regularly.

I decided to compile a lists of activities and other things, that can help you keep boredom away, during July, and really the rest of the months as well. Some of these may be more for people who also live in California, but really, I am sure other states have similar things.

1. I was not sure I wanted to include this one, and then I ended up deciding to put it as first idea. Disney. I think my California residency may have been revoked, had I not put this. Now, I am sure you guys know, there are so many Disney options. They have locations around the world, and they even have cruises. I have not been, but I do hope to go one day, in the near future. I have done some looking into it, and I have found out a few things, that you may not know.

*The Disney Cruises are actually packed with super fun activities, and kids can get more face time with the characters. You have to research each specific cruise, to find out what activities and which characters are available, but this is definitely a less stressful option, to actually visiting one of the parks.
*If you are a Costco member, you can pay for your vacation through them, and you can make payments, rather than pay all at once. You can visit your local Costco, and they can fill you in on the details.
*Once you decided which Disney location you want to go to, visit their site. Find out what special events they have, and the dates of the events. Then you can totally take advantage of those events, or you can use those dates as a guide of when not to attend. I found out from my friend who visits Disney at least once a year, that sometimes it is better to go during an off time. When there is not a big event, that attracts even more people. Lines will be smaller. The crowds won't be as suffocating. Also, local hotels may have special offers available, because they are looking to fill vacancies.
*I was also told time and time again.... Don't be afraid to stay at a hotel nearby, and take advantage of Fastpass. Yes, if you stay at a nearby hotel, you will have a tiny bit of extra travel, and yes your experience will be different. However, that is really not a bad thing. It is just as magical, plus, the money you can save, can enable you to enjoy more in the park!
*I have also met a wonderful lady, who is as nice as can be, and her job is helping people plan Disney vacations. Yes, seriously, that is her job. Amazing right?! I am going to link you guys her page, so you can check it out. I am sure she would be totally cool will helping you and answering questions you may have. No, this is not some paid sponsorship. I just really think she is super nice, and she happens to have inside knowledge on how to plan an amazing Disney vacation. You can find her here. Her name is Brittany!

Suffice it to say, if you took a trip to one of the Disney parks, or went on a Disney Cruise, you would definitely not be bored.

2. One thing I have really been trying to focus on lately is making memories. They say memories are more important than actual possessions. So, spend money on doing things to make money, rather than items to fill your house. One excellent thing I have discovered, is Groupon and Living Social. Have you ever browsed your local Groupon or Living Social pages? They often have some amazing local experiences for very  affordable prices. When I was on my local page last week, I found several awesome Summer adventure options, for hundreds less, than if I bought the tickets at the places themselves. I have also found some awesome deals on stays at a B&B!!! My goal is to go to this one B&B that is in Tahoe, and then spend the weekend enjoying Tahoe.

I highly recommend checking out your local Groupon and Living Social offers. I always see awesome deals. Chad really wants to go cage diving with sharks, and a few years ago, before I really understood just how amazing Groupon and LS were, I saw a deal on diving with sharks. I let the opportunity pass me by, because I really did not have an experience with the sites at that point. I can now tell you, I would not let that opportunity pass me by again.

Also, say you want to go the route, of buying a B&B package, and having a few days away. I highly recommend checking out Restaurant.com and searching for local restaurants around your B&B. Restaurant.com is always having amazing sales, and the certificates never expire. You could very easily go out to a fancy dinner, at an amazing local restaurant, near your B&B, and eat a $100 meal with your family, and only pay $25 to $50 out of pocket.

So, why not do some local activity at a discounted rate, or explore a local town, while enjoying a quaint B&B?!

3. This suggestion, can also tie in with Groupon and LS, depending on what offers you have local. Find a local art gallery, and see about taking art classes. If they do not offer classes, chances are they know of a local artist who does. You could also do a search on your Facebook, and find the local paint parties. They are popular, affordable, and tend to be a blast. Plus, you get to create art. If you are like me, just creating art alone will be happiness enough.

If you happen to be local to me, and this interests you, I know of an amazing gal that does paint parties. Again, I am not paid to tell you this. I just think she is an amazingly nice person, and she happens to be an artist. She can come to you for a paint party with your friends, or she hosts parties at local restaurants, and you can easily attend one of them. You can find her here, and she will post the dates and times of the events she hosts. She even hosts kid friendly events, if you want to get the entire family in on it!!

4. If visual art is not your thing, you could easily find a local shop that offers instrument lessons. For yourself, your kid, or for you both. When I was younger, I played the guitar, and I genuinely wish I had kept up with it, and often think about taking lessons again. Though, I would probably prefer drum lessons. I don't know why, but I have always LOVED drums.

If you like music, but don't want to be the one creating it, you could easily take a dance or Zumba class. Many schools offer classes for all ages and skill levels. It is also possible to find classes for a discount, on Groupon or Living Social!

5. I almost feel like I should be sponsored by Groupon for this post... LOL... So, as I was browsing Groupon the other day, I found cooking classes on there. I had never even thought to take cooking classes before, but as I scoped out the Groupon deal, it was actually quite awesome. They had adult classes, and ones for kids. When I did some more research on my own, I even found Mommy/Daddy and me classes.

Well, if you pay attention to my Facebook page, you know that Gigi has recently become obsessed with cooking/baking. Just this past weekend, we baked homemade cookies and a cake. The cake was box mix, but she had me add fresh berries (blueberries and strawberries) to it, and we made homemade butter cream frosting. I am honestly quite amazed. So, suffice it to say, these cooking classes are on our to do list.

6. If you are lucky to live on the East, West, or Gulf Coasts, then you can make a fairly easy trip to the beach. Swim or surf in the ocean. Build sandcastles. Enjoy the sun. If you cannot visit the ocean so easily, I am sure you can get to a river or lake, and enjoy the beach there. I highly recommend it. It is something I want to do more often. Living in California, I should be going to the beach at least six or seven times a year. Sadly, that is not an accurate number. So, I have made a promise to myself, that the next time I find myself wondering what we will do for the weekend, so we aren't bored, my choice will be to pack a picnic and some towels, and go to the beach.

Sometimes, fighting boredom, is just a matter of making a decision on what to do. Well, if you are in place where it is warm, and a beach is nearby, make that choice to go to the beach. Live it up!

7. I will probably get some eye rolls on this one, and some of you may even tell me I am a weirdo. That is okay. Really, it is. I am thirty five, and in my lifetime, I have had multiple (really good) friends tell me I am a weirdo. Before I got sick, and daily tasks became something I have to put a ton of effort into do, one of my absolute favorite things to do, was to clean and organize. I am not even joking. I loved cleaning so much, I would clean my friend's homes.

So, I am serious when I say.... Feeling bored? Clean. Organize. Not only will you be busy, and not bored, but once you are done, you will feel so amazing and so accomplished. I am convinced we are just naturally happy, when the spaces around us are clean and organized. I have a goal of getting our entire hallway organized before the end of Summer. It is a task that would normally be extremely easy, but factor in my health, and our lack of any storage space in this house, it is actually not as easy as you may think. Plus, I have yet to find the necessary key (a new desk or desk alternative) to the complete organization of the hallway. I am not letting that stop me, though. I will conquer the unruly hallway.

I know I may seem crazy and weird, but try it. The next time you are feeling bored, conquer an area of your home, and clean and organize it. If your kiddo is bored, tell them to clean and reorganize their room. Make it fun for them. Offer them a reward. It does not have to be a huge thing. Maybe just ice cream at your favorite ice cream place.

If you are like me, you LOVE Pinterest. Especially when it comes to finding recipes to try, or ideas for home decorating/organization/cleaning. So, again, I am NOT being paid to share these links, nor am I affiliated with them. However, I was recently coming up with a game plan for home organization, and I found these lists helpful...

Also, just in case you want to find me on Pinterest, I am here. Also, if you are ever bored and in bed, and have your phone/tablet handy.... Browsing Pinterest is an excellent way to get rid of boredom, and stay up way too late. I mean, or so I have heard. 😉

8. This one is honestly probably my favorite thing to do. Not to beat boredom, but just to do in general. Volunteer. Seriously, non-profits, Food Banks, youth programs, etc are ALWAYS looking for volunteers. Do you like to play soccer/softball/baseball/etc? Our local kid's leagues are always looking for volunteers to help with coaching and being referee. It is a super fun way to spend your time, and help local kids. Food banks and Soup Kitchens can always use more volunteers. You will keep boredom away, and feel great about helping others!!

9. Do you know every single place in your town? Every shop, restaurant, event center, club, park, etc? Probably not. One thing that we love to do, when we find ourselves sitting at home and bored, is to simply go someplace local, that we have never been before. So, if you and your family are bored, pull up a local map, or search local events on Facebook, and pick one and go. My favorite way to explore new places, is to keep an eye on local events posted on Facebook, and on posts in my local mom's group, and to pick places and go. We have discovered lots of interesting things locally. Also, I strongly encourage you to do this for restaurants. Rather than go to the same place you always go, look up a place you have never been on Facebook. Check out the reviews and pictures people post, and pick one that looks good, and go. We found three of our favorite places to eat by doing this. I also want to mention Restaurant.com again. They really do offer great deals, and it can help save your family money on dinner!!

This is how we found our favorite park, as well. We were just out driving, and saw the park, and stopped. It has become our go to park, and had we not been exploring a place we had never been, we would not have found it. I think a lot of boredom can be ended, simply by getting in the car and going.

Maybe you can go berry/fruit/vegetable picking at a local farm, and use your bounty to make a yummy treat!!

10. Remember how I said that Gigi has developed an obsession with cooking and baking? She will make me sit and watch cooking/baking videos on Facebook with her. We literally have weekly dates, just to watch these videos together. We have created a list of recipes we want to make. We are very slowly making them, as we get the time and recipe, and I am having a decent day health wise. So, if you are bored, go in the kitchen and cook. You can cook a tried and true recipe. Find one on Facebook/Pinterest or in a cookbook. Maybe don't even use a recipe. Just gather up some ingredients and see what you come up with. Cooking can be so much fun, alone or with your kiddos. As crazy as it was to make cookies and a cake in the same weekend, we definitely had fun crossing two recipes off our list.

I am going to share a few recipes from the list of recipes Gigi and I have made. Again, I am not paid to share these recipes, and I am not affiliated with these chef bloggers at all.

So, there you have it! Ten ways to keep boredom away. I know they are all such common sense ideas, but if you are like me, sometimes when I am bored, I just cannot think of anything to do. So, hopefully the next time you cannot think of anything to do, you will suddenly remember this blog, and a fun idea will hit you! I hope you have a July that is far from boring!

Now, go see what my fellow bloggers have come up with, to help you keep boredom away.

Dream Job #SecretSubjectSwap

Welcome to July's Secret Subject Swap. This week eleven brave bloggers submitted a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

My “Secret Subject” is:
You have your dream job, tell us about your first day, doing what you love

It was submitted by: http://www.southernbellecharm.com

I had to honestly think about this subject, for quite a while, and I even discussed it with Chad. My dream job. What is my dream job? I am not sure if I really know the answer to this anymore. At one point, for a very long time, the answer would have been lawyer. For nearly just as long, teacher was also a very suitable answer. I think it is safe to say, that writer is also a very realistic answer. I could honestly see myself happy, with any of those jobs. Are they my dream job though? I honestly do not think so.

I walked away from law, because I was bothered by several parts of our legal system, and did not feel I could make the impact necessary to fix it. I was very upset and fell out of love, with what had been my dream job, since I was an ambitious six year old. I want to be a teacher, but after struggling to teach Gigi, very basic things, I worry I would be terrible at it. Now, writing is a passion of mine, and I could probably make a genuine go of it.

Are there other possibilities? We are talking dream job, so really the sky is the limit. Chef? I probably love to eat, more than I love to cook. Actress? It could be fun, but would I like the limelight? Detective? Would I be able to put in the years necessary, to achieve the Detective rank? Fashion designer? Fun, but I am no fashionista, and I doubt a line of tanks and sweats, would sell well.

So, the winning option, seems to be writer. Only, that isn't truly my dream. I know that my dream job, would be helping others. Possibly, through working for either the food bank or the Foster Care program, that we currently volunteer for. I mean, if I could be paid to work for them, that would be the best! So, I guess I know how to explain my first day now!

Before I do, I would just like to give a tidbit, I would TOTALLY love to get paid to be Gigi's mom. I have said that more than once. More income is always welcome, and I wish someone would pay me, just to be Gigi's mom. That would truly be getting paid to do what I love, because out of all the things I have done in my thirty five years on Earth, being Gigi's mom is hands down the best thing ever.

Now, here is my disclaimer, this first day on the job, may seem crazy unrealistic, but please remember, it is my dream job!

So, yes, I choose writer. I want to get paid to write. Ideally, I would write books and blog posts here. I would love to make more than enough money, to support our family's needs, as well as some fun extras and plenty of money to donate to beloved causes.

I would like to say I would start my first day, by getting Gigi ready for school, and then dropping her off. I would be driving our new car, that I bought with my sign on bonus. I would stop at Starbucks, and get a coffee, and then I would head to the Food Bank. I would spend a couple hours there volunteering. I would then head back home.

Once I was home, I would get a snack, another cup of coffee, and sit down at my computer. I would finish up and schedule my next blog post. I would spend some time scheduling posts on my Facebook page. I would then confirm with Nina, from the Foster Care Program, my volunteer hours for the week.

I would then spend some time doing some chores around the house. I would love to say, that I would probably be setting up my work area, in our hallway. One of the first things I would do, with a signing bonus, is get a reliable second car, so we no longer had to worry about Gigi having transportation to school. My second thing would be to get myself a nice desk, and set it up in the hallway, so I could have an actually work space. This would take the rest of my afternoon up.

I would pick Gigi up at school, and bring her to the park, for a short play time. We would return home, and Chad would be home from work. We would spend the evening doing homework, eating, and spending time together. After they go to bed, I would probably stay up, and write a bit on the book I would be writing. I would also probably return e-mails, and finalize any schedule additions.

I would love to take a nice, long, uninterrupted shower, and crawl in to bed. I would be so grateful for the added income, and for having the ability to just write and live. I would probably end the day, exactly how I most love to end my day. Reading in bed, while drinking coffee, until my eyes are too heavy to stay open.

I guess, in a way, my dream of being paid to write, is a genuine possibility. I would just need to do it. Put myself and my writing out there, and get a publisher. I never have crossed that bridge to professional writer. I keep the vast majority of my writing private, and have never even tried to monetize my blog. I get a bit of anxiety, even thinking about it. So, I think it is safe to say, I won't be having my dream job anytime soon.

What about you... What is your dream job? What do you think your first day would be like?

Surprise #UseYourWords

Today’s post is June's Use Your Words post. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked four to six words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That is the challenge, here is a fun twist; no one who is participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

My words are:
lately ~ mint ~ sold as is ~ work ~ bumped ~ clasp

It was submitted by: https://climaxedtheblog.blogspot.com (Thank you, Jenniy!!!)

Surprise! Haha! If you have followed my blog for any length of time, and you have seen my UYW posts, you know that they are a mix of random posts. I have done poetry, I have done questions and answers, I have done short blurbs about our life, I have written pieces of a short story series, and plenty of other things. So, I am sure it comes as no surprise, that I decided to revisit one of my past UYW techniques. The good old Q & A.

I recruited my friend Dee, to ask me random questions based on each word. I told her she could ask me anything. They could be super nosey, or super simple, or even abstract. Just any question that popped into her mind, when she read the words. I even told her she could ask something she knows the answer to, because it is likely the other readers may not know the answer. So, here we go....

1 Q (Lately): What has been your favorite thing you have done lately? What has been the least favorite thing you have done lately?

1 A: Well, we have been involved with volunteering for two totally awesome organizations, Second Harvest Food Bank and Agape Villages Foster Care program, for the last several years. Lately, we have been more active with Agape, and have joined the Volunteer Committee Board, and it has been awesome. I am so grateful for all the work they do, and for being able to be a part of it. I am also hoping to become more involved at Second Harvest. We volunteer every chance we get, but I am sure we can do more, or at least maybe I can, once Gigi is in school.

My least favorite is probably the battling I have done, trying to secure a ride to school for Gigi. The school bus system here, is nothing like what I am used to back East. Here, the kids are assigned a home school, based on where they live, and it is the parent's responsibility to get the kid to school. If a child's home school it full, and the child has to attend a different school, if that school is a certain distance away from their home, there is a bus option. I have spoken to the Principal at my daughter's school, and to someone at the District office, and have made no headway. It was suggested that I let my four year old (who will be five in two weeks) walk to school. I told them there was no way I would allow that, she does not know this area, has never walked anywhere alone, is not well enough versed on road safety (yet), and sadly the area between our home and her school has several registered sex offenders. I was told to buy a second car. Honestly, how could they not realize that if that were an option, we would have done it already. It is not an option for us, so therefore, it is not a suitable/viable solution. It was also suggested that I find a parent of a fellow student, and get them to give her a ride. Once I made it very clear, nobody on this Earth would make me let my child ride with a stranger, that suggestion was dismissed. Then I was told to quickly get to know someone, who has kids going to the same school, or simply lives in my area, and get them to bring her. Well, that is obviously not happening. So, my next step is to call the Superintendent's office, and pray for a solution. So, yes this drama is definitely my least favorite thing lately. My second least favorite thing, would be having at least one or two doctor appointments for the last six to eight weeks. It is definitely not on my lists of favorites. (UPDATE: Since I originally wrote this answer out over the weekend, I have talked to the Superintendent's office, and I am waiting for a return call with a solution. Hopefully a viable solution!)

2 Q (Mint): Tell us a random tidbit about mint in your life.

2 A: Hmmmm.... This one had me genuinely stumped. I thought about saying that mint chocolate chip is one of my very favorite ice cream flavors, but that seemed too simple. So, after some thought, here is my tidbit... Gigi loves gum. I liked gum at her age too. I loved the fruity Bubbalicious and the fruity Fruit Stripes (remember this gum?!) Well, Gigi loves mint gum. She also really loves round peppermints and peppermint candy canes. I tried to buy her fruity flavored candy canes, but she absolutely prefers peppermint, and will eat them over a fruity one, every time. I did not start liking mint gum and mint candy canes, until I was probably twelve or thirteen. Not, Gigi. She is adorable when she chews her gum. She never swallows, always throws it away properly, and is adorable when she fails to blow bubbles (not for lack of practicing). Chad gave her, her first gum last year, when I was not around, and I was a little annoyed at first, because she was so young. I just knew I would be scraping gum off of the floor or wall, or cutting it from her hair. However, she has proven me wrong, and has excellent gum etiquette.

3 Q (Sold as is): Tell us about a time you regretted buying something sold as is.

3 A: I hate to be lame, but I honestly cannot remember a time I regretted. I am sure there is probably something, but I honestly cannot think of a single example. I know, at some point in the future, hopefully not too long from now, we will be needing to buy a used car, probably sold as is, but hopefully we do not regret it ever. I pray it lasts us long enough, that we can get to a point where we can buy a better second car. We just have to find a car that is in good enough shape to last a few years, is extremely affordable, and hopefully one we can make payments on for a few months, rather than all up front. Fingers crossed.

4 Q (work): If you could work doing anything you want, right this minute, what would you do? I mean exactly now, start today, no degree or anything necessary.

4 A: This is a very good question. I am not sure. I think many jobs do require degrees, at least the ones I would love to do. I guess, to be honest, I would have to say working at the Food Bank. I would absolutely LOVE to have a job there, helping them help those people in need in our community. Not only is it amazing work, and something I love to do, but the entire staff there is AMAZING, and it would be awesome to have such fantastic coworkers. I guess beyond that, I think it would be awesome to get paid to work as a blogger/writer. That would definitely be super.

5 Q (bumped): Did you ever have an embarrassing moment, where you were out in public, and bumped into someone you know?

5 A: This one is a tough one. I am trying to think. I am going to be honest... I am awkward and shy (yes, I am shy. I know I hide it fairly well, but internally I die a lot, from absolute shyness overload), so it could almost be said that anytime I am in public, and bump into folks, I am embarrassed. You know that meme, about leaving the house looking AMAZING and seeing nobody, and then leave the house with a stained shirt and messy hair, and you see literally everyone you know?! I definitely have to situations. Making a fast run to the store for something, dressed in clothes dirty from cleaning/yard work/etc and messy hair, and seeing people I know. I cannot think of any specific times.
Oh wait!! Okay. I have an answer. When I lived in Buffalo, I struggled to make ends meet. I was in school and just struggling to pay my bills. A local church, within walking distance to my studio apartment, happened to have a food pantry, and would give away food once a month. It definitely helped me stretch my groceries out to last longer. I was so grateful for it. Once, when I was picking up my bag of food, one of the volunteers, was a guy from one of my classes. I was beyond embarrassed. I was so nervous to see him in class again. He was awesome though. He never mentioned it. He was always kind towards me. He would often sit near me in the library, and his friends would join us. I don't think he ever said anything to anyone about seeing me, and he never brought it up. So, the embarrassment definitely faded, but at first it was terrible.

6 Q (clasp): What is the very first thought that comes to mind, when you hear the word clasp?

6 A: When you clasp your hands together to pray. Yep. That is my very first thought. I thought of a person with their hands clasped together in prayer.

A very special thanks to Dee, for creating such great questions!! Thank you, thank you, thank YOU! xo

I hope you enjoyed my usage of my words this month, and the questions Dee created for me!! So, I am curious.... What is the first thing you think of, when you hear the word clasp?!

Don't forget to check out the rest of this month's Use Your Words posts!! I will meet you there!! I just need to get some more coffee. The Bergham's had a long night and an early morning! Must. Have. More. Coffee.

Permanent #UseYourWords

Welcome to May's Use Your Words blogging challenge. Until now.

My words are:
sunshine ~ heat ~ house ~ pirate ~ promiscuous

It was submitted by:  https://dlt-lifeontheranch.blogspot.com/ (Thank you for such awesome words!!)

I know before I even looked at my words, what I was going to be writing about. I knew I would just have to make the words fit what I needed them to. So, when I opened the e-mail, which contained my words, I was a bit nervous. I decided to actually wait until I was ready to write my post to open it. I did not want the words to weave their way into my brain, and make me doubt my post idea. So, I was actually happy when I read them, that they could fit into my blog post idea, mostly painlessly.

Why did I know what I was going to be writing about? I looked at the date we would be posting on, and noticed immediately, it was the day after my tattoo was getting finished. So, I figured it was perfect. I could walk in the house, from getting my tattoo finished, sit down, and write this post using my words, and sharing a picture of my tattoo. If you follow my Facebook page, you have actually already seen it. You also saw the first session results, and you know some of the meaning behind the tattoo.

I really just wanted to give more details about it, and post up the pictures. I will tell you know, I will be updating this post in a few weeks, once it is fully healed, and I will post a totally healed picture at the end.

If you know anything about me, you probably know that I love coffee. I am pretty vocal in my love for the delicious beverage, and so I think it is a fairly commonly known fact. Two years ago, I got my feet tattooed. My left foot says Hope with an infinity symbol. Cliche but I love it. I try to live life with infinite hope. My right foot says L;ve. Live. The "I" is a semicolon, because I joined in the Semicolon Projects mission, to spread the word. Your story is not over, keep on living, and get help if needed. Do not choose death. I have gratefully chosen to live several times, and I am grateful for that.

Not long after I got them done, a Friday the thirteenth was approaching, and the tattoo place was holding a special on tattoos. I saw a coffee cup on their poster, and I wanted it. I was thinking about it, and I was just really wanting it, but I knew I wanted more to the tattoo. I just had no idea what. Two of my friends, totally talked me into getting it. I told them I did not know what I wanted the tattoo to be, as a whole, but that I wanted the coffee cup to be a part of it. They told me if I did not get the cup, and start the tattoo, I would never actually get it.

So, I got the coffee cup on Friday the thirteenth. I did not get it colored in or anything, because I still did not know what exactly I wanted it to be as a whole. Later that same day, I went with my friend to get a tattoo, and she paid for me to get a shark tattoo on my other arm. Sort of forcing me to get my arm tattoos done, since I had the start of them. Well, it has been two years, and I finally got my coffee tattoo completed. My shark is still not finished, and I really have not fully thought of the entire piece, only part of it. Give me two more years, and hopefully, I will be writing a post about that one.

Back to my coffee cup. I knew immediately I wanted to get #1 Mom written on it. Gigi loved the tattoo, and was forever "drinking" the coffee from it. She has also spent the last two years, stealing sips of my real coffee, every single chance she gets. She LOVES coffee. I started drinking coffee at five, so she comes by the love honestly. So, an idea formed in my head.... Get a W on the cup (Gigi's real name begins with a W. Gigi is from her middle name!), and get a bigger cup next to it with #1 Mom on it, and fill in the space with something else. I did not know what else. The cup of coffee had steam coming off of it. I then decided my cup of coffee needed to have steam, and the steam needed to meet and form a heart.

So, as you can see, the complete idea was coming to me. I wanted the tattoo to be more about Gigi though. How?! I did a lot of brainstorming. About a year ago, I finally knew what I wanted, but was not sure it would work. I then received a $200 gift certificate, to one of the artists I follow on Facebook. He owns the studio where my neck tattoo was done. So, I finally decided to use it to complete my Gigi tattoo.

I went to see him, schedule my appointment, and talk over my idea. To my surprise, he supported my entire idea, and was actually excited about it. So, I scheduled my appointment, and it was ON. I went last month, and had the first part done. A W was added to the cup, my #1 Mom cup was added, some flowers were added in to fill up the space, the steam formed a heart between the cups, and it was perfect. It was done in black, so it looked like a page from a coloring book.

After the first part healed fully, Gigi colored on it with markers, and we took pictures. I brought the pictures into him, and he printed out the one we decided was best, and then he inked her artwork directly onto my arm. My tattoo was her coloring book, and now it will be with me forever. Letting a four year old create my permanent tattoo, is actually not the craziest thing I have ever done. Plus, I honestly think it turned out well. I may be a tiny bit biased, since I gave birth to the artist, but I don't think I am wrong.

I knew now was the time to get it done, before the Summer heat fully hits. You do not want to be sweaty and sore. You also do not want to be surrounded by so much sunshine, that sunscreen is necessary on a not yet fully healed tattoo. So, really this was perfect timing. Getting my Gigi tattoo right before Mother's Day.

Honestly, seeing my idea come together so well, really makes my heart happy. It is safe to say that Gigi is pretty darn heart happy as well. Oh, and she has added tattoo artist to the list of things she wants to do, when she is older. So, in case you are keeping track, we are now at Astronaut Doctor Mom who is a rock star and tattoo artist on the side. Plus, when she lists it all, she adds in "and drinks lots of coffee". Listen, Promiscuous Pirate is not in there, so I think I am doing mostly good. Plus, I like that she wants to be a mom, because that gives me hope for being a Grandma. I can totally live with that. In like twenty five years.

Now, make sure you go check out what words everyone else received, and how they crafted them into a post. I will meet you there, right after I go refill my coffee cup, and whine a tiny bit more, about how sore the fake coffee on my arm is.

Travel Bug #SecretSubjectSwap

Welcome to May's Secret Subject Swap. This week ten brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

My “Secret Subject” is:
Travel alone or with family? Why?

It was submitted by: http://theblogging911.com/blog

When I was a kid, my dad and I did a lot of traveling, and I loved it. I definitely got bitten by the travel bug, and to this day, I have this deep desire to travel. I think in a perfect world, I would be able to travel all around the world. Of course, once you become an adult, sometimes life can end up in a way, where a lot of traveling is not possible. You settle down, and responsibilities take importance over traveling. So, I do not do much traveling anymore. However, during my twenties, I did enjoy quite a bit of solo traveling.

Since Gigi was born, nearly five years ago, we have really only traveled twice. We went to Vegas to see my Auntie and her fiance, and watch them get married. Last year, we went to Arizona, to visit Chad's family there. I can honestly say, traveling with a child, is way more complicated than traveling alone. More luggage, more worries, more stops, more delays, more fun. More, more, more.

So, keeping in mind the added chaos of traveling with a kid, there is obviously some appeal to traveling alone. However, I am kinda in love with Gigi, and I even love Chad a little bit, and I hate the idea of being without them. So, I honestly think, despite traveling alone being so much easier, I would always choose to have them with me. Especially Gigi. I cannot travel much these days, due to my health, but I definitely want to show her every inch of this world I am able to. I don't care if we go to the same places, at least we experience it together.

I have been in California since 2008. This is my tenth year here, and I have had some moments of feeling restless. My inner nomad has been itching to travel, but overall, I am content here with Chad and Gigi. Yes, my travel bug bite is still affecting me, and I still want to travel all over, but there is also this part of me that is grounded. I have definitely put down roots here, and I am content. I think I would be content wherever my Gigi and Chad are. I think I am not longer connected to the place I am at, and therefore easily able to leave/move/travel, but I am connected to the people.

What about you?? Do you prefer to travel alone or with family? Would you rather travel with your spouse/significant other only, or your spouse/significant other and your kids?? Do you think there is a big difference between traveling alone and traveling with family??
