Life by Audrey Carlan #BookReview #TrinitySeries

Yes, it is most definitely that time again.... I have a book I want you to read. In truth, I have a book you NEED to read. So, let's just establish something... If Audrey Carlan writes a book, I love it. She has yet to disappoint me. I love her writing style. I love the stories she tells. I love the characters she creates. She is hands down one of my top three favorite authors at the moment. In truth, she is probably in my top ten all time favorite. So, definitely do yourself a favor and start reading her books.... All of them. Her Trinity Series is an excellent place to start!!

You will absolutely fall in love with Maria and Elijah!! You will find yourself rooting for them, and wanting them to find complete happiness. Do they?! Read it and find out!! Just know you will be completely entertained by this book. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, and you will find yourself not wanting to put this book down. I was hooked before the end of the first chapter. I did not want to put it down. I found myself NEEDING to know what happened next. As always, this book is steamy hot. You may find that the only thing you want more than Maria and Elijah to be happy together, is to be with Elijah yourself. As book boyfriends go, Elijah is top notch.

This is the fourth book in the Trinity Series. I absolutely recommend reading every single one of them. It will help you follow along, and know who is who, but they are also just excellent books. However, I think if you read this as a standalone, you would probably still be able to thoroughly enjoy it. I am certain by the end, you will be running to get the previous three. This series is definitely one to read.

As always, once you read it, please let me know!! I would love to discuss this book with others!! Plus, you will want to thank me for bringing this book for your attention. Most definitely worthy of being added to your read ASAP list of books!! I honestly cannot get enough of Audrey's books. She has this ability to captivate you and entertain you.

#Life #TrinitySeries
Synopsis
Maria De La Torre is a survivor. Her life has not been paved with streets of gold…but with blood and sacrifice. She may have been there for her soul sister in the Trinity Trilogy but this story is about her life. The life she chooses. The same life someone from her past is trying to take away.
Elijah is the last man in the entire world Maria should be with. He’s a dark, gritty, lawless bounty hunter—the exact opposite of the man she loved and lost, the man who gave up everything for her. Only Elijah is not the type of guy to back down. He’s used to getting what he wants and he’s set his sights on the raven-haired seductress.
Time is not on Maria and Elijah’s side. There’s a new threat to the soul sister, one Maria never thought she’d have to face again. And this time, the stakes are life and death.

Blinded by Lyz Kelley #BookReview

It is that time again. What time? Time for me to tell you about a book I have recently read. I am happy to say, I have nothing but good to say about this book. Actually I had one thing negative I was going to say, as I read a book, that I am going to be writing a review of, I make mental note of things to say. So, I had planned on telling you that I wish the ending hadn't come so abruptly. I wanted more information. Well, you see, I like to try to go into books I review blindly. I don't read any blurbs or comments about the books. I want to form my own opinions and feelings about the book. Well, once I was done, I realized this is the first book in a series. *does happy dance*

I fell so in love with the characters and plot, that I definitely need more. Lyz Kelley is not going to disappoint me (or you), as this is book one in the SIX book Elkridge series. So, do yourself a favor, and get this book now, and read it, so you will be ready when book two is released.

I loved this book because it was unique. The characters were unique, the storyline was unique, and it was well written. It has excellent character development and plot development. It will keep you turning the page. It is a very interesting murder-mystery, crime drama, with plenty of romance and passion mixed in. It will appeal to all types of readers. If you love romance, this book is for you. If you like mystery, this book is for you. If you like whodunit crime stories, this book is for you.

You will find yourself falling for the characters, and cheering them on. Their romance feels genuine and real. Their passion is hot, but not so hot it is annoying. It is just a very well written book. I absolutely recommend you read this.

As usual, if you read this, please come back and let's discuss it!! You can comment here or on my Facebook page!! I would absolutely love to hear other opinions on this book, and also, if you want to discuss theories... I am absolutely down for that!! Mostly, I just CANNOT wait for book two!!!

Continue reading for a synopsis of this book, information on the author, information on how to get this book for yourself, FAQ about this book, and a GIVEAWAY!!

BLINDED: Frequently Asked Questions: (FAQ)

Why did you develop Elkridge, your small-town series?
Both my mom and dad grew up in small towns and I loved the idea of a microenvironment for the setting of my series. Since childhood, I heard many fun stories about small-town life. I lived in a fairly small town growing up, so I figured why not create a town in Colorado? Elkridge was pulled from many different elements of nearby mountain towns to create a unique place. Don’t go looking for Elkridge, it doesn’t exist, but have fun visiting through my new series.

You mention in your author notes working with an FBI Special Agent.
Yes, Special Agent Michael Bantner came to speak to our writing group when I lived in Philadelphia. Years later, when I started plotting the Elkridge series, he helped with the technical aspects of the plot. He loved my story idea, and said it was one of the most realistic plots he’d heard. I was very excited. To get some of the local details correct, I also interviewed one of my high school friends, who worked in the local sheriff’s department. I love research, so it was a lot of fun.

Are any characters in BLINDED based on real people in your life?
The character that is most real to me is Sam. My brother, Sam, was always going head first into life. Always wanting to be the hero, he often didn’t listen to other people’s advice. Don’t get me wrong—we were best friends, and I loved him dearly. When he died just before I graduated high school, I was devastated. I can relate to how both Mara and Joey feel about people they love being snatched from their lives. Those feelings are real, and even after all this time, I still can feel the chasm my brother’s absence has left on my heart.

When Joey first shows up in Elkridge, he has no intention of searching for his brother’s killer. Why?
My technical experts suggested a brother wanting to investigate his brother’s murder, in another jurisdiction, would not be feasible. Sure, romance books are based on fantasy, and there is nothing better than an alpha male charging in to save the day. However, I wanted to write a more emotional book. When my brother died, we were very close. While writing the book,  I started asking myself , what if Joey wasn’t close with his brother? What if he had regrets? What if he could investigate the most horrific crimes, but couldn’t stomach investigating his brother’s homicide?

Mara is such an unusual heroine. How did you develop her character?
Mara was developed out of an exercise at a writing retreat. C.J. Lyons, a New York Times best-selling author, was giving a lecture on the use of senses in writing. Most authors use sight as the primary go-to sense, and we were exploring the use of other senses to add flavor to our writing. I really struggled with the exercise. Like anything, I knew that conquering a problem takes practice. So, I wrote a novella. Then a friend talked me into writing a full-length book—thus BLINDED was created.

Where did you get the idea for Kym’s quirky character?
Kym, Mara’s best friend, was a lot of fun to write. Mara, the heroine, is so serious and a bit like me that I thought she needed someone who tilted her world a bit. There were times when writing Kym, I had to laugh. The humorous funeral scene actually happened to a friend of mine. She and her family were at a funeral and her uncle started cracking jokes to lighten the heaviness of the situation. Since I couldn’t find any way around excluding a funeral scene from the book, I decided to adopt the idea to make the scene a bit lighter.

There are so many fun characters in Elkridge. Are you planning to write more books?
Yes, book two is Kym’s book. It’s a 85-page novella. If you want a quick weekend or airplane read, SPURNED is a good book to pick up. The eBook will be available in March.  ABANDONED is a full-length book that introduces new characters and includes characters you met in BLINDED, will be available in April. All books in the 6-book series should be out in 2017.

What I need you to know: I was not paid to write this review. I received an ARC of the book for free, and was asked to give an honest review of the book, which I have done. I value honesty. If I love a book, I will tell you. If I don't like a book, I will tell you. I will say this... Read it and decide for yourself. Everyone interprets and enjoys books differently.

Eight by K.S. Thomas #BookReview

Okay, so today's book review is a bit special for me. I know we should not have favorites, as far as people go, but K.S. Thomas is definitely a favorite of mine. I try really hard to not be biased, and I think I am successful. If she wrote a horrible book, I would tell her. Lucky for me, she has yet to write a horrible book. Far from it. Her books are my favorites. I love every single one of them. I fell so in love with her writing, that I found every book of hers that I could, and read them all. Some I have read more than once.

Her latest release, Eight from the pINK series, is no exception to the excellent writing she has done. I absolutely loved it. Now, you can totally read this book all by itself, and you would be happy, but I urge you to read the entire series. Every book, every novelette. READ THEM! I promise you, you will thank me!!

In Eight, we learn the story about Memphis and Riot. We learn the reasoning behind Riot's disappearance, and we are given the fill in for the blanks we had. Their story is one with sadness, hope, romance, suspense, and overall love. It is a wonderful story. Personally, it is everything I could have wanted for them, and much more. It is a wonderfully written story, and it will keep you entertained.

The most amazing thing about K.S. Thomas' writing, is that she weaves the most amazing stories. She does it without a lot of excess words and needless information. She paints perfect pictures for us, to truly understand what is going on, and she keeps us captivated. They are romance novels, and they can be a bit hot, but if you aren't into TMI romance books, you will be very happy. The great part... If you do love those HOT HOT HOT romance novels, you will still be happy. She has the way of really giving us the impression of the passion happening with the characters, and manages to do it without a lot of TMI.

Nothing I can say to you will do this book, or any of her books justice. Just know that she is an amazing author. She tells fabulous stories, complete with suspense, drama, romance, happiness, sadness... Everything you need for an awesome story. She fills the stories with amazing characters, that she builds up, and gets you to love, or love to hate... She is thoughtful in her writing. She gives the tiniest of details, that you may not even realize are just so important. She has a wonderful way of surprising her readers. You will be captivated and satisfied.

Once her stories are over, you will feel a sense of completion, and yet still wish there were more. She has a knack for really getting you involved with the characters and their storyline. If you read the entire series, you will be rewarded with updates and glimpses at your other favorite characters. I urge you to pay attention, because she uses the simplest of details to build grand moments.

There will be plenty of mentions of coffee, so if you LOVE coffee as much as me, that will be the icing on the book cake for you.

Truly, go read this book. Go read the entire series. Once you are done, get every book she has ever written, and read them. Hopefully, by then, you will finish just in time to read the next pINK book!!

Another thing, that I personally love about the pINK series... It really showcases strong female leads. Women, who even at their weakest moments are strong. There is plenty of ink, romance, and passion to keep you coming back for more!!

Please, once you read this, or any of her books... Let me know! I would love to discuss it with you!

So, don't wait... Go get Eight, and fall in love with Memphis and Riot!!

Read on for a excerpt, and information on how to get a copy of your own!!! There is also information about Nine, Ten, and Eleven. I highly recommend them ALL!!

Divine Desire by Audrey Carlan #BookReview

Hello, Y'all!! If you have followed my blog for any length of time, or follow my Facebook page, you have probably figured out that I love to read. Reading, coffee, and Gigi- my three greatest loves. One of the things I want to do, whenever the opportunity presents itself, is to tell you guys about books I have read. You may remember me telling you about Sacred Serenity by Audrey Carlan, back in September. If you don't, you can read about it here.

Well, I just recently read the follow-up to Sacred Serenity, and I am here to tell you about it. Much like Sacred Serenity, I absolutely loved Divine Desire. Divine Desire is the third book in the Lotus House Series, by Audrey Carlan. I highly recommend you read all three, but you should know, I feel you can absolutely read this book, without reading the previous two, and still understand and enjoy it.

Audrey is a fabulous writer, and an amazing storyteller. In this book, she gives you the complete story, while giving you glimpses at the past characters we fell in love with, and setting us up for future installments. I love that we get glimpses at the characters from the previous books, all while exploring the current characters journey, and yet getting the set up for the next story. This book will leave you fully satisfied, yet ready for what is next.

You will fall in love with Mila and Atlas. Their journey will captivate and entertain you, until the very end. You will be left satisfied with how their story developed and ended. Audrey does a fantastic job weaving together yoga, romance, passion, and life. She tells a story that will make you feel a full gamut of emotions, from sadness and suspense to passion and pleasure. It is definitely a hot, sexy romance, but it isn't too hot. There is an actual storyline. She develops the characters well, and the storyline is fabulous. I love how Audrey manages to give us the happy endings we want, with a healthy dose of reality and passion mixed in.

You can definitely read this book on its own, but as stated, I highly recommend you read the entire series. You won't regret it. Audrey is a masterful storyteller, and her books will leave you satisfied. A definite added bonus, is the glimpses she gives us to the previous characters, in each new book. She doesn't leave us completely void of no updates. With each new book of Audrey's I read, the couple she tells me about, becomes my favorite. Divine Desire is no different. I am now firmly #TeamMilaAndAtlas, and after reading it, you will be too!!

Another little note for you... When you read these books, do not be shocked if you have a sudden, overwhelming desire to do Yoga!! With each book, my desire to do Yoga grows. After reading Divine Desire, I am now actually looking into finding a class I can feel comfortable in. I think it was probably inevitable.

Please, once you read it, come back and let me know what you thought of it!! I would love to know how you feel about it!!

Happy Last Day of 2016!! I hope your 2017 is joyous, prosperous, and full of great books!!

My Happy Face #TopTenThursday

Welcome to this week's #TopTenThursday. This is a fun writing challenge, that is hosted by Tamara of Confessions of a part-time working mom. Her, myself, and other bloggers, come together and post weekly Top Ten lists, which we create based on a chosen topic. I hope you enjoy reading my list, as much as I loved creating it.

Last week, we shared our Top Ten Talents. I really struggled with it. This week, we are sharing our Top Ten Things That Make Us Happy. As you can imagine, I did not struggle with this topic. Well, unless you count narrowing it down to just ten things, a struggle. So, without further ado, here in random order, are the ten things that always make me happy.

1. Gigi. I am sure y'all knew this one, right?! I think it is a given. Even on her worst days, and my worst days, she is a huge happy spot. She completes me, and makes me so happy. She is my sunshine, even on the darkest of days.
1 b. Chad. Yeah, he annoys the living daylights out of me, but he is my BEST friend, and he gave me Gigi.

2. Coffee. I can be in the grumpiest of moods, and take one sip of coffee, and BAM... Happiness. Truly. It warms me to my soul, and I don't mean heat warmth, I mean the warmth of happiness. You probably were not surprised by this one either.

3. Doctor Who. I know. This one probably was a surprise. It just makes me happy. I love all things Doctor Who, especially the show itself. If you knew me, you would probably be even more surprised by this one making the list. I am not into Sci-Fi. I do LOVE LOVE LOVE Doctor Who though. I even wish I had owned a ton of Who gear. Maybe one day!

4. Ellen. Y'all... I can be in a horrible mood. Feeling sick and just miserable, and I can watch Ellen, and she is just the biggest pick-me-up! Seriously! She is so darn funny, and she is always saying such beautiful things, and doing such amazingly kind things! I just adore her. I often seek out videos of her, when I am grumpy, or not feeling well. It is actually on my bucket list, to go see her show live one day. I would love to dance with her! She is AWESOME!

5. Painting. Really, art in general, but especially painting. Painting is my happy place. I honestly have not done any really painting in years, but it is my absolute happy place. I get lost in it. I can forget my worries, and just focus on existing and creating art. I really wish I had a small studio, and could paint on a regular basis.

6. Pay It Forward. Anytime I am able to pay it forward, or hear of others paying it forward, I get happy to the deepest depths of my soul.

7. Matt Damon. Him. His movies. His interviews. Basically all things Matt Damon. There is only one thing I am not happy with him about... He is a *gulp* New England Patriots fan. Hey, everyone is flawed eh? His just happens to be a yucky flaw, but in the grand scheme of things, it could be worse. He could be a Yankees fan...

8. Reading. I love love love love love to read. Anytime I get to read for a bit, I am a happy girl. Yep. I will sacrifice sleep, even if I am exhausted, just to have a few minutes of reading time. Reading has always been one of my happy places. Long before I had art, I had reading.

9. Swimming! I really love to swim. So so so much love for swimming! I do not get the opportunity to swim, as often as I would like, but when I do get the chance to swim, it makes me so completely happy. It is so peaceful and restful. I just love it so very very very much!

10. #Mommitment. Oh my goodness, y'all!!! This makes me SO HAPPY! Especially the Mommitment Facebook Group!! Just a bunch of moms showing each other love, kindness, support, acceptance, and friendship. It is just a beautiful thing. Such a wonderful thing, and I am so grateful to be a part of it.

Honorable mentions: Road trips. Bowls of chicken and dumplings or Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Working in my Happy Planner. Writing. Giving gifts.

So, did my list shock you?! Were you expecting it?! Some shocked you, others not so much!? What are the things that make you happy?! Are any on your list on mine as well?!

Don't forget to visit the Top Ten Lists of my fellow bloggers, and find out what makes them happy!!

Obsession #BookReview

If you follow my Facebook page, you probably saw me talk about Shantel Tessier's new release "Obsession". Well, in case you missed it, I read and LOVED the book. So, I decided to write a quick post, letting you all know, that you should read it!!

It is the second book in a series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. That being said, I loved it so much, I immediately read the first book "Addiction". So, if you wanted to, you could easily read them both in order. I highly recommend them both.

So, how it all began... I noticed a post on Facebook about the impending release, and it caught my eye. So, of course I investigated. I added it to my to read list, and moved on. As luck would have it, I got the opportunity to sign up to request an ARC, and was chosen. I was a smidgen nervous, because I am an honest person. So, I said a prayer that I'd like the book, and dove in.

I not only liked it, but I loved it. The characters totally won me over, not just the main characters (Skye and Brecken), but all the characters. I was excited to learn, a future book will be released, to tell me the story of one of my other favorite characters. I was overjoyed to know I had the first book to read, to learn about Case and Taylor, whom I'd fallen in love with. That's one way I knew I was reading a fantastic book. The characters were so well developed, you found yourself drawn to the secondary characters, who barely got page time.

I don't want to give away the plot. I really want you guys to read it, and enjoy the journey, just as I did. I do want to give my thoughts though. It is a well written book. As I said, the characters are well developed. The plot is interesting, intriguing, entertaining, and well written. It's a romance, but not a typical, overly sexual romance. Yes, there is hot, steamy sex, but it doesn't overpower the plot. It's more of an enhancement. I often find that romance novels include plenty of sex, and not enough storyline. That definitely isn't the case with this book.

The storyline itself is wonderful. It takes you on an interesting journey, full of twists and turns. It will make you feel a full gamut of emotions. It will entertain, confuse, frustrate, excite, upset, and tease you. It is a lovely journey. Some of it will be anticipated, and other parts will come as a shock. I was blindsided by a few plot details, and others I had expected. It's not a shallow romance novel, but not so deep you cannot enjoy it.

It was a book I found myself not wanting to put down. I wanted to know what happened next. I also felt sad when it was over. It was a complete story. You will feel complete closure, and satisfaction. It's just that I was so entertained, and had become invested to the point, I wanted more. I'm secretly hoping for a short story accompaniment or a full part two, in the future. I was comforted, by the fact I had book 1 "Addiction" to read, and knowing book 3 will be coming.

If you've been paying attention to my Facebook page, you have probably figured out that I LOVE author K.S. Thomas, and I'm constantly searching for another author with books I can enjoy, just as much as her books. Well, I've finally found it. Yes, I enjoy other books I read, just not on this deep of a level. The best way I can think to explain it... I love the writing so much, I want to read everything she has written. The writing is just that good.

I hope you read the books. If you do, please let me know. I would LOVE to discuss them with you.

Coming Undone May 2015 #SecretSubjectSwap

Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This week, sixteen brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.

My “Secret Subject” is:
Sell me your favorite book.
It was submitted by the wonderful lady behind  The Momisodes
(Thank you for such a fabulous subject! Though it was a tough one!)

My favorite book. What?! I thought we were not supposed to pick favorites. Oh wait. Is that just kids? Well, in some ways books were my kids for many years. I love books with a depth that reaches my soul. I am a reader. I am a writer. Books are just sort of part of me. So, picking a favorite is not as easy as it would seem. "Where the Red Fern Grows", "She's Come Undone", "Wuthering Heights", "Yesterday I Cried", so on and so on. Gosh. Pick one and sell it to you.

"She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb. It's on Oprah's Book Club. Sold? No? Oy.

The reason I am a writer, the reason I do this, the reason I don't stop doing this... "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb. This book is the reason I started writing my words and thoughts down. It is the reason I started writing poetry. It is the reason I have written the novels, I have written (and kept hidden). Whenever I get the nerve to one day submit some of my work for publishing, will be this book. The reason I face life's difficulties and just keep going, is this book.

This book has defined who I am on many levels. I read it when I was fourteen. During one of the hardest years of my life. It spoke to me on so many levels, and really helped me come out of my shell. It helped me to face my demons and move on. It enabled me to cope with the tragedies that had been weighing me down. It helped me to blossom as a person. It did so much for me. It helped me heal, at a time I needed to heal.

It is truly a book that I feel everyone should read. Once, twice, twenty times. It is a difficult read in some ways. Wally does not sugarcoat it. He just tells the story bluntly and perfectly. He touches on some really tough subjects. There is rape, obesity, a broken family, suicide attempts, abortion... There is a lot of depth to it. There is also beauty and hope in the darkness. It is really just a well written book.

I have dealt with a lot in my lifetime. I think my life mirrors this book more than I would like it to, but I am okay with that. Life cannot be all roses, there needs to be thorns, so we can appreciate the roses. It truly is a wonderful book. Yes, it has a darkness to it, but as with life, the darkness is accompanied by light.

If you have not already read it, I strongly recommend it. If you have read it, what do you think about it? Everyone I have ever discussed it with, has loved it.

If you do decided to read it (because I sold it so well), please let me know your thoughts, once you've read it! I have decided that I am going to read it. Again. It is so worthy of reading several times.
