My “Secret Subject” is:
Some things you just need to learn to live with. Like . . .

(Thank you for the wonderful topic, Karen!! <3)
So many times in life, we have to just "suck it up", and I am not just talking about our iced coffee or iced macchiato. We really do have control of our own lives and our own happiness, but so does destiny. Life has a way of handing us lemons, and it is up to us to make lemonade, or at least tolerate the sourness. The good news is that life also gives us whipped cream and cherries!
Some of the things we all seem to universally learn to live with....
Our families. Like they say, you can't pick your parents/family! I think one of the best way of learning to live with them, is just reminding ourselves visits are temporary, and we always have our friends. Again, like they say, friends are the family we do get to choose! I have been blessed to be able to choose a great "family". Plus, I was blessed with some pretty great biological family members!
Health issues. This one is one that I have really had to work on. Yes, some health issues can be prevented, but sometimes they just happen. You can do all the right things, and still get sick. The vast majority of my health issues, I had absolutely no control over. What I have had control over, is how I deal with them. I do my very best to do just that, deal. I try to make lemonade whenever possible, and when lemonade isn't possible, I try to make sure to put on my best sour pucker!
The weather. It is one of the things we cannot control. Trust me, if I could control it, California would not be a drought, but it would only rain on the days I wanted it to. Actually, I think it is probably best that I am unable to control the weather. I would make sure it never snowed. Like anywhere. I would pick a few key places, and let it snow there, mostly in the Arctic and Alaska and Canada. Everywhere else would be beautiful weather all the time. I would keep Aspen, Tahoe, the Alps, snowy. See?! Like I said.... Good thing I have no control over it! I hate snow way too much!!
Our favorite TV shows getting cancelled. It happens. Unfortunately, the vast majority of us, do not have billions of dollars to spend keeping our beloved shows on the air, and so cancellations are inevitable! Sometimes, I feel like more of mine get cancelled than other people deal with. It sometimes feels like if I love a show, it will be cancelled. It just happens all the time. A few times, I jumped on the fan wagon of already popular shows, and BAM. Cancelled. I am a jink! Seriously. I truly am! I guess the good news is, there are new shows all the time, and occasionally some of them are great!
Stupid people. Sometimes, we may even be the stupid person. Hey! It happens! Nobody is perfect. Stupid people are everywhere. Some are constantly stupid. Some are occasionally stupid. Regardless, we all have interactions with stupid people. It is up to us to deal with it and rise above.... or stoop to their level and a stupid person too. However we deal with it, we have to deal with it. Unless you are able to be a total hermit, and never interact with another human being ever, stupid people will be part of life. Plus, let's face it, what fun would hermitage be? Not much! Especially not on the days you're the stupid person, and you are dealing with yourself.
Getting older. It is part of life. There is no stopping it. Well, you can live in denial and stay 29 forever, which isn't the worst option ever, but at some point, people will stop believing you! Plus, as they say, be grateful for your old age, some people never get the opportunity! I am very grateful for each year I am given! Especially now that I am spending them with Gigi! I just turned 33, and in some ways I dreaded it, but mostly I was excited! Just a few short years ago, I did not think I would see 30, let alone 33, but I am here, and let me tell you, the lemonade is yummier and yummier each year!
Along with us getting older, so do our children. It is absolutely inevitable, we cannot stop it. It is part of our life and part of their life. Gigi will be three in a few short months. THREE! Two blinks ago she was a week old. I really need to stop blinking, but my darn eyes will not cooperate! So, I will keep blinking, and Gigi will keep getting older, and I will love every second of it.
Along with our kids getting older, is our kids making their own choices. It is inevitable. We did it. Our kids will do it. It is just one of the things we have to live with. All we can do, is teach them all the things we think they need to know, and hope they grow into awesome human beings! We can only tell them what to do for so long. Just as we must live our own lives, so much they! Sad but true and beautiful. I am excited to see the person Gigi becomes. I kinda think she is going to be amazing, and not just because I made her.
Taxes. You knew I was going to mention them, right? We just have to deal with it. They happen. They are a part of life. Well, I guess you could ignore them. I just hope you like Prison lemonade!
Judgement. Other people judging us is an absolute given in life. We can let their judgement drag us down, or we can rise above. The important thing is that we love and accept ourselves. As long as we are doing our best, that is what matters. If someone else does not like it, that is their problem, not our problem. I am my own worst critic. I am learning to live without judging myself. It is hard. Really hard. As you know, I belong to #Mommitment, and have made a vow to not judge other moms. In truth, I just don't judge other people. I find it so much easier to accept other people as they are, than I do to accept myself. It is one of those things I work on regularly. I realize my opinion of others does not matter, and one day, hopefully I will realize that I need to accept my best as good enough!
Change. No matter how much you fight it, no matter how much you hate it, no matter how much you dread it... change happens. Everything changes. We change. Life changes. Life is change. I hate change. It annoys me. I like familiarity. As I am getting older, I am getting better at accepting change. Sometimes, I even end of liking the changes better than I did the old way. Change is definitely something we all have to live with.
What would you add to the list?! What is something we just all have to learn to live with?!
Thank you for taking the time to read this! I hope you are all having a fabulous 2016! If not, just remember, change will come!
Happy New Year!
