Using My Words March 2014 Edition

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.

At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.
I’m using: Seriously ~ fabulous ~ retain ~ delegate ~ hells bells!
They were submitted by: http://superiornonsense92.blogspot.com/

Every time I participate in this blogging challenge, I ponder my words and try to come up with the most brilliant way to use them. This time around, I really could not think of a way to use them, but they did remind me of something that happened back in high school. I really wanted to come up with some fabulous use for my words, but seriously nothing else came to me. I am sure this boring story from my childhood will be an awful read, but it is all I've got.

When I was in high school I was involved in every club and activity I could get into. Part of me did it to not be bored. Part of me did it for the fabulous transcript to submit to colleges. Part of me did it to get to spend time with my friends outside of class. For whatever reason, I was involved in everything.

I loved it. I loved the socializing. I loved getting out of afternoon study hall (All resident students at my boarding school had to attend an afternoon study hall). I loved helping out. I loved learning new things. I loved making changes at my school. It was a great experience.

One of the problems I would run into was squeezing all my school work into the small amount of time I had left at night. Most nights I found myself secretly staying up after lights out, and silently finishing homework. If I did not stay up late, I was trying to finish it during breakfast. It was hard trying to retain all the knowledge I was taking in, while finishing my homework in such a rush.

Sometimes I felt myself getting overwhelmed. I was trying to balance school, work, friendships, activities, and just living/relaxing/being a teenager. My senior year seemed to be especially rough. On top of balancing all of that, I was also balancing a relationship. Though my boyfriend was pretty fabulous, so it didn't make it too difficult. I know at times certain commitments suffered because of my involvement in other activities, but I think in the end, I did a decent job juggling it all. Not perfect, but decent.

At one point during my senior year, I felt like I was really starting to lose track of everything. I was not quite up to par in areas where I really needed to be. While sitting in my dorm room one night, listening to music, a thought occurred to me, while "Hells Bells" was softly playing on my stereo... I should delegate some of my duties to my friends that were involved in certain clubs with me.

One of my most favorite activities was the Mission Club. We were basically a club that did good things. Seriously, that is what we were. We adopted an orphan through Save the Children. We did landscaping around the school. We helped out in the community and our school however we could. My senior year, we even sponsored a blood drive.

I had donated before, and despite my hatred for needles, I found it to not be that bad. I also understood the importance and need of donated blood. It was something I very much wanted to do before graduating. So, it was no surprise that I was somewhat overwhelmed by it. I put a lot of pressure on myself to make it as perfect as possible. Looking back now, I can think of a million ways to have made it even better. You know what they say about hindsight...

At the time, I decided to seek help. I was infamous for trying to do everything on my own. One of the greatest things I have learned over the years is to ask for and accept help when you can. It is one of the hardest things for me, but sometimes you just have to suck it up and lean on others. I decided to lean on my girl Angela. I was smart to do so. She was extremely helpful!

She helped me advertise and get people signed up to donate. She helped set up. She helped keep everything organized. She helped set up. Let's just say, she helped! I will forever be grateful. To this day every single time I donate blood, I think about her. Partially because she is a fabulous friend, partially because she was so helpful with our Mission Club blood drive, but mostly out of guilt.

You are wondering why out of guilt, aren't you?! It is because I worked so hard to convince her she just had to donate blood. I stressed the need for donated blood and told her how easy it was (based on my personal experience). She, being the kind person she is, totally agreed to donate. I feel had I not been so persistent, she probably would have decided to wait until she were older, and did not need parental permission due to potential risks, and she never would have scared the living daylights out of me.

You are wondering how she scared me, aren't you? Well, we donated and went over the snack area to relax. Things were great. I was looking around at all the people there, and feeling so proud about what a great thing the Mission Club was doing. Then Angela suddenly wasn't feeling so well, and then she had a seizure. It was SCARY. To this day I feel guilty and scared thinking back. It took me weeks to forgive myself. It was awful.

It was bad enough that I still remember it twelve years later, and it came to mind when reading my words. So, I did it. I used my words. I am sorry I did not do them more justice.

Do yourself a favor and click the links below to visit all the other people that used their words! Thank you guys for reading! Thank you fellow bloggers (especially you, Karen) for including me in this challenge!

I’m using: Crush, Moonlight, Soul, Beach.
They were submitted by: http://thethreegerbers.blogspot.ch/

I spent many nights at the beach.
Letting the moonlight drench my soul.
Letting my worries drift away.
Gazing at the stars and letting my mind wander.
I tried so hard, night after night, to get over you.
To forget the crush I had on you.
To forget the way you made my heart skip beats.
To forget the way you made me smile.
To forget the way your mouth tasted so sweet.
I tried to let the memories melt in the hot summer heat.
They wouldn't, or maybe they couldn't.
They remain to this day.
All my memories of you.
My memories of us.
Of days spent cuddling on the beach.
Days spent watching waves crash onto the sand.
Days spent falling for you.
Memories so sweet and yet so sour.
Memories of our time together, right down to our last hour.
I try to block it all out.
From our best moments, to our worst.
That moment when you walked away.
Leaving me behind.
That moment when my world turned gray.
That moment when my happiness seemed to turn to dismay.
A permanent dismay.
I am finally better now.
All these months later, I have finally found my smile again.
I still think of you often.
I find myself wondering what could have been.
What would have been, had you not left.
Had you not gone on a quest to be a better man.
Had you realized that you were a great man already.
Had you just been satisfied with me. With us.
If only I had been enough.
I wasn't. I'm not.
You're gone. I'm here.
I sit here in the moonlight, letting my soul soak it in.
I find myself wondering where you are.
What you are doing.
Are you too soaking in the moonlight?
Perhaps you are also on a beach.
Maybe you are even thinking of me.
Do you think of me?
Do you still have memories of us?
Do you even miss me?
Do you ever wonder how I am?
Are you finally a better man?
The man you wanted to be.
Is that now you?
Or you now he?
What about me?

Well, there you go. I hope you enjoyed it. They were fabulous words, and this is what my brain did with them! Now do yourself a favor and wander on over to all the other fabulous posts involved in this writing challenge!

Using my words wisely... January 2014 Use Your Words Blogging Challenge

Today’s post is a writing challenge that I hope you find as much fun to read as it was to write. Until now.

My words are:
Blackbird ~ Create ~ Sweeten ~ Hope ~ bright ~ mixed nuts

They were submitted by: http://www.justalittlenutty.com

I am totally excited to do this, but I was totally clueless how to approach these words. A truly unique group of words. I ended up getting the flu (most awful thing ever!), and in a feverish haze at 10 pm, this past Tuesday, inspiration finally hit me! What a relief that was. Not sure how much you guys will enjoy this, but I figured I would do a get to know me type of post, using my words. Based on each word, I will tell you something about myself. I hope you enjoy! Feel free to comment and tell me something about yourself, using any or all of the words!

Blackbird:
When I was about 10 years old, I was flipping through the channels, and somehow ended up watching Hitchcock's movie about killer birds. You know the one? Yeah, I will never forget it. The movie itself was okay, I paid almost full attention. When it was over, I went outside to walk to my neighbor's house, and I kid you not... every single inch of power lines and every single tree branch was covered by blackbirds. I am truly not exaggerating. It was by far the freakiest thing ever. I ran as fast as I could to my neighbor's and waited until there wasn't a bird in sight before returning home. To this day, I get a tiny bit freaked out if I see large masses of birds gathered. I also hate walking under flying birds. I know it is said to be good luck to be pooped on, but that is good luck that I would rather not have.

Create:
In high school I had a fabulous art teacher. Her name was Mrs. Kainz. I went in as a freshman unable to draw a straight line. Oh boy, that is NOT an exaggeration. I was horrible. I have no idea what Mrs. Kainz saw in me... I do not know if she saw potential or if she just saw my passion, but she encouraged me to pursue art. When I think back on the first drawings I did, I am amazed that she encouraged me. I would have encouraged me to pursue anything but art. Somehow, someway my passion turned into actual talent. I guess practice makes perfect. I became able to create some pretty darn awesome pieces. My talent definitely lies in drawing and painting. My attempts at 3D art are quite appalling. To this day, anywhere I can draw or paint is my happy place.

Sweeten:
I love to play poker. Yep. I love love love love love it. I may not be great at it, but I'm not horrible at it either. I shouldn't admit this, because you never know who I may play against one day.... but.... *dramatic pause* Sometimes I like to sweeten the pot, even though I have horrible cards. Yep, I am a bluffer. Apparently, I have a decent poker face, because I don't get caught very often.
Another little tidbit... I love love love to drink tea. I am horrible though. I was raised in the South, and to me, tea is not tea unless you put some sugar in it and sweeten it right up!

Hope:
One of the biggest themes of my life is hope. I love hope. I do my very best to never lose hope. Hope is so important to me, that I seriously considered giving Weewee the middle name Hope. I am not sure I mentioned this in previous blogs, but Chad and I could NOT agree on what to name Weewee. So, we literally drew pieces of paper from a hat to name her. The rule was whoever drew "first" got to select her first name and "middle" got to select her middle name... Any name we wanted. Fate chose to give me middle. *grumble* Chad picked Weewee. So, I first was torn between Weewee Hope and Weewee Faythe and Weewee Paige. Somehow that turned to Weewee Piper. In the end it was Weewee Gianna Rose. :) Sorry, I could talk about Weewee all day. So yes, hope... You could definitely say that I am a huge optimist that encourages everyone to hold tight to hope and always look for silver linings.

Bright:
If you want to upset me and cause me to have a yucky day, expose me to bright lights when I first wake up. Absolutely horrible thing to do. For whatever reason, if I am exposed to bright (unnatural) light within the first 30 to 45 minutes of waking up, I get migraines. It is one of my triggers. UGH! Needless to say, I am not a fan of bright (unnatural) lights, and do prefer to be in dim light and darkness.

Mixed Nuts:
I love nuts. Yep. LOVE. Pecans. Pistachios. Almonds. Brazil nuts. Cashews. Walnuts. I love nuts. When I was pregnant with Weewee, I craved unsalted mixed nuts from Costco. Oh yum yum yum! I feasted on them for the first four months of pregnancy. Then suddenly, they started making me sick. :( Then I just craved pistachios. I nearly always have some sort of huge (Costco sized) thing of nuts around. Usually mixed nuts. Usually unsalted. Currently, I have almonds. I think my love for nuts started because of my Dad. Every year growing up, in my Christmas stocking, I would get apples, oranges, and mixed nuts (unshelled... I had to put in the work to enjoy my treat, and I did not mind one bit!)! This is a tradition I plan on continuing on with Weewee! <3

Phew. I made it. I know it was not the most creative way to use my words, but I hope you all enjoyed getting to know a tad bit more about me! I am doing much better now. I seem to have put the flu behind me. The Mister is now sick, but thank the good Lord Weewee never got sick. So, I am hoping this weekend, in between catching up on housework and enjoying my loves, I can write a blog or two! I have some set up (pics created, ideas), I just need to sit down and actually write them! Thanks for reading this! Thanks to all the wonderful bloggers that included me in this awesome blogging challenge, especially Karen!!!

Now, take a few minutes and visit the rest of the blogs involved in this Use Your Words Blogging Challenge... See who got which words and how they used them!

Jingles and Tags. Tags and Jingles.

Well, I am almost ashamed as I type this post. I typed up part of it DAYS ago, but never seemed to find the time to finish it. :( It should have been posted DAYS ago.

So.... Jingles and Tags. Tags and Jingles. I am very new to this blogging world. I have had a blog for years, but have never really posted regularly. I started it long ago, when I was being bombarded by people telling me I needed to write a blog. I just never went anywhere with it.

Now, that I am a stay at home mom, I found myself needing some sort of an outlet. That is where blogging has come into the picture. I read tons of blogs. Blogs on various topics... Parenting, cooking, baking, life randomness, etc etc

One of the blogs I follow is done by an amazing lady named Karen. Her blog is http://www.bakinginatornado.com/! If you have not checked out her blog yet... What are you waiting for?? It is fabulous! Want to know what else is fabulous? The blogger that is Karen! She has been so beyond helpful with my attempt at blogging! Despite my inexperience, she has welcomed me with open arms, and helped me with everything! She has included me in the blogging communities Secret Subject Swaps. Most recently, she even tagged and jingled me!

This is why I am writing this post! :) By tagging me, she is asking me to answer the same questions she did (Read her blog here: http://www.bakinginatornado.com/2013/12/tagged-and-jingled.html )! By jingling me she has enabled me to show some love to a few of my favorite bloggers! I get to pick five bloggers I like, and tell you two reasons each why I like them! Then I get to tell you four things I like about myself. Yay! I am very honored that she would choose me to include in her tagging and jingling. Have I mentioned she is amazing?? Well, she is. That being said...

Tagged I'm It

1. Q: What do you love the most about Christmas time? A: I love the magic of Christmas. I love the family time. I love celebrating Jesus' birth.

2. Q: Do you celebrate the holiday in style or is Bah-Humbug for you? A: I like to think I celebrate it in style. I love to decorate and give gifts. I love to focus on the meaning of Christmas. I'm definitely no bah humbug.

3. Q: Are you leaving anything out for Santa Claus this year so he remembers to leave your presents? A: No. I have never believed in Santa. Next Christmas, Weewee will be two days shy of 18 months old. I will need to sort out our Christmas routine. Since Santa aka Chad is a real cookie monster, I'm certain cookies will be involved in the routine.

4. Q: What is the one gift you are most looking forward to GIVING? {It can be to your kids, another family member, etc – remember to be discreet if they read your blog!} A: I got Embee the Rebelle girly Nerf dart gun and Chad a manly Nerf gun. As excited as I was for Weewee to see all her toys, I was most excited about giving Chad and Embee a daddy/daughter gift.

5. Q: What is your all-time favorite Christmas movie? A: I'm a sucker for "Home Alone". I could watch it every year. I think I love it so much, because it reminds me of my childhood, and Christmas memories I made then! :)

6. Q: What is your all-time favorite Christmas song? A: Without a doubt "The Little Drummer Boy". I cannot explain why I love it, I just do. I know that the meaning behind it has always struck a chord with me. He did not have much to give to his Savior, so he gave the one gift he had... he played his drum. I don't have much to give, but I always give what I can.

7. Q: If given the opportunity would you participate in an “Ugly Sweater” party and what sweater would you wear?  Peruse one on the internet or even in your own closet and show us!  A: I would LOVE it!!! I do not own any Christmas sweaters, but I am sure, if I did, I would own and wear this one to the party >>> http://keltiecolleen.buzznet.com/photos/celebritiesinuglychr/?id=68409032  Let's face it... If it is good enough for Matt Damon, it is good enough for me. (In a future post, I will have to explain my obsession with Matt Damon, for those of you that don't already know!)

8. Q: Have you started any Christmas traditions this year that you plan on carrying forward? A: On Christmas Eve, I plan on reading to Weewee the story of Jesus' birth. Definitely something I will always do. This was my first Christmas being a mom, so I am just playing it by ear. I hope to create many wonderful traditions. Not only ones that Weewee can enjoy, but ones she can carry on with her children. You know, in about 50 years when she has kids. Fifty years sounds about right, since she isn't allowed to date until she is 40.

9. Q: It’s Christmas morning … what does it look like outside where you live? A: Sunny. I live in California, so no snow in sight.

10. Q: You just found yourself standing under the mistletoe … who comes up to give you a kiss first? A: I'm definitely hoping it is Chad!!! Otherwise, I will have some 'splaining to do!!! On a side note... Weewee gives the greatest kisses, even if they are really, really, reallllllllly slobbery!!!

***Now, I am technically supposed to tag others, so they can tag others to answer these questions, and continue the tagging chain. Well, I don't really know anyone to tag. So, I am tagging *YOU*! Yep. If you are reading this, have a blog, and feel so inclined to answer the same questions I did in a blog post... Tag you are it!!! Please leave me a comment on this post with a link to your post!!! I would LOVE to read your answers!!!***

Jingle, Jangle, Jingle

The jingling is the hardest part of this for me. Simply because I only get to pick five bloggers. Do you know how many fabulous bloggers there are in this world?!?! So, I decided to just randomly pick five... Well, four. Obviously I am going to Jingle Karen... The rest I am basically pulling out of a hat... Otherwise, I would never be able to decide who to include!!!

1. Karen at http://www.bakinginatornado.com/ !!! I could tell you many things I like about her, but two is the limit... 1. She is an extremely kind, helpful, and outgoing person, that is not afraid to reach out to newbies in the blogosphere. :) 2. Three words: Potato Crusted Meatloaf. She has TONS of fabulous recipes (that you should check out on her blog), and I could have used any of them for my number 2, but I HAD to use this one. My first recipe of hers that I made. I give you >>> http://www.bakinginatornado.com/2013/01/take-1-jan-secret-subject-swap.html
You're welcome!

2. Mrs. Hive at http://debiehive.blogspot.com/ ! 1. She is very open and honest. I find this to be very refreshing. 2. She is so a geek. A proud geek. She embraces it and I love her for it!

3. Sarah at http://themomisodes.com/ ! 1. She has this awesome ability to make me laugh and entertain me on Facebook! 2. She helps me to realize being a mom isn't easy, but it sure can be fun.

4. Jennifer at http://www.peanutbutterandpeppers.com/ ! 1. I am on a weight loss journey... well, more of a journey to healthy! :) This lady inspires me and helps to motivate me. 2. She is yet another one with a bajillion amazing recipes, that you need to check out on her blog!!! I will share this one as my reason number two, and you are most welcome! I give you >> http://www.peanutbutterandpeppers.com/2012/08/06/chocolate-peanut-butter-frappe/

5. Brianne at http://cupcakesandkalechips.com/! 1. She posts pics of the lunches she sends to school for her son. Suffice it to say that I am taking notes, for when my W starts school (Which I hope is a day a LONGGGGG time from now, but at the rate she is growing, it will be in about five more blinks of my eyes. :( ). 2. If you have not guessed it by now... I love food. I love trying new recipes. I love people that share new recipes with me, so I can try them. Brianne does this very well. So, I give you>> http://cupcakesandkalechips.com/2013/09/08/sesame-glazed-cauliflower-wings-sundaysupper-tailgate-glutenfree-vegan/

Now for four things I like about myself....

This is a very good question.... As they say, we are our own worst critics. If I were asked four things I dislike about myself, I would probably have a mind full of ideas of what to list. So.... four things....

1. I like that I am an honest person. Sometimes it gets me in trouble, and that is okay. I like it better than the alternative.
2. Over the past few years, I have developed the ability to seek out and find silver linings in every situation. I am quite proud of this, and it has made my life much easier. I am able to look beyond the negative and embrace the positive.
3. I love that I love to read. It has enabled me to go on many journeys in my lifetime! Every new book is a new adventure. :)
4. I love that I am Weewee's Mama. I am pretty sure this answer is lame, and probably should not be accepted as a valid response, but it is the truth. I love that I am Weewee's Mama. She is amazing! I love that not only did I help create her, but I get to enjoy her journey of growth!

Well, there you have it. Some tagging and some jingling! :) Thanks for taking the time to read this! I know I am behind on making posts... We had Weewee's first Christmas and Weewee turned SIX MONTHS OLD... and not a single post from me yet! I will get on it ASAP, I promise.
